How To Become An Aerobics Instructor

Sixteen years ago, when my babies were small, but my body was not, I decided to become an aerobics instructor. Since my husband and I were moving to a small town and he was a physician fresh out of residency, these small town folk looked at me as some kind of expert, which I was not! I looked for a book on HOW-TO, and back then, there were only a scant few! Panicky, I signed up for the first aerobics conference I could find, ordered the manual and sweated my heart and body out studying for the written and the practical (physical) exam that was to follow. God always, always provides and He did! She came in the shape of a dynamic package of an aerobics instructor in Columbus, Georgia. Fiery, enthusiastic and muscled like a drill seargent, I tried to imitate her every move. Talk about content! I filled up a notebook for just one, one-hour class trying to keep up with her EVERY move. That is when I realized - just start small. But as those wiser than I keep telling me, the important thing is to not get it just right, just GET GOING! Ah! That I could do. So armed with my new knowledge (my head aching with all of this physiology I had to learn and remember) and sore from learning the new body part exercises required for the practical part of the Aerobics Certification exam, off to Atlanta I went. So stressed was I that right before the exam, during the much-needed review for first-time testees, my stomach revolted! I began to cramp without mercy! Oh, Lord, I prayed, unless you help me I will never make this exam, let alone pass it. But, gritting my teeth, and knowing God would NOT fail me, I went into the exam and amazingly enough, PASSED with flying leg warmers! (back then that is what we wore!) And if you are considering this as a part-time endeavor, let me encourage you, you CAN do it. As a tv preacher said yesterday, "I created my own gymnasium on the streets of the hood because I was tired of "not being picked for the team", no excuses, you CAN be on the aerobic instructors of America team, just get out that and MAKE IT HAPPEN!
